What Are the Advantages of 3D Laparoscopy?

The natural 3D vision improves laparoscopic skill and allows laparoscopy to be performed much more precisely.
ENDOEYE 3D delivers 3D depth perception with high-definition that enables quicker learning of laparoscopy surgery and improves the quality of care as perceived by the surgeons.
3D enables efficient operations of the surgery due to shorter OR time and better usability.

Check out our video in which numerous luminaries of laparoscopic surgery explain the advantages of 3D.

Realistic and Convenient 3D Perception

Olympus ENDOEYE 3D is designed to provide a subtle 3D perception so that surgeons can perform operations without any stress. With our enhanced 3D imaging system we have successfully developed a natural 3D perception of distances within narrow cavities as well as a high depth of field for clearer images. Early tests are showing that operators felt comfortable in viewing without having to get accustomed to it.

Introducing Our New ENDOEYE FLEX 3D

The new ENDOEYE FLEX 3D uses a joystick to shift the field of view smoothly to the desired location in a single action. This allows surgeons to obtain the best viewing angle quickly while also making it easy to track movements in the organ being viewed. With the shorter flexible tip, it becomes easier to maintain distance in a narrow cavity.

ENDOEYE 3D 30°

Tired of Tilting Your Head?
Olympus has overcome the technical barrier of video image rotation with a 30° rigid laparoscope. This allows correct orientation, no matter what viewing angle is desired. You can now change the direction of view while maintaining horizontal orientation of images, enabling a continuous critical view in 3D.

ENDOEYE 3D 0°

Unrivalled ENDOEYE efficiency for superior handling and maximum surgeon comfort from an all-in-one product concept. The ENDOEYE 3D 0° enables focus free handling and delivers bright, clear and natural 3D depth perception.

General Surgery — Colorectal Surgery

Most surgical procedures for pathologies of the lower gastrointestinal tract, such as colon cancer or inflammatory diseases, can be treated through a surgical minimally invasive laparoscopic approach, conferring a number of benefits such as a superior cosmetic result and reduced pain.
For minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, high-quality imaging is crucial for clear visualization of the surgical field during the procedure.

Olympus imaging systems provide optimal visibility. The new Olympus 3D VISERA ELITE III system with 30° image rotation enables the most natural 3D perception and the most realistic vision, even in the narrow area of deep rectum. With the VISERA ELITE III platform, Olympus offers the combination of the high-level 3D ENDOEYE as well as the camera head solution with IR (infrared fluorescence imaging) visualization for easier detection of the perfusion and anastomosis during a colon resection.

Benefits of ENDOEYE 3D 30° for Colorectal Surgery*

  • Allows larger distance from operating field to be kept for a better view
  • Easier and quicker identification of structures and planes to avoid injuries.
  • The rotation function while keeping the horizon improves the quality of view and is optimal during dissection.
  • Delicate and precise movements are facilitated.
  • Easier detection of small vessels.

General Surgery — Hepatic Surgery

The laparoscopic minimally invasive approach in the field of hepatic surgery has gained a specific place in daily practice. All types of laparoscopic liver surgery and laparoscopic resections of the liver are supported by Olympus equipment.

Olympus can offer surgeons the best solution to provide the best outcome for the patient. The new Olympus 3D system with 30° image rotation enables the most natural 3D imaging and the most realistic views, allowing surgeons to perform sutures and grasp the dedicated hepatic structures with the highest precision and safety.

Benefits of ENDOEYE Flex 3D for Hepatic Surgery*

  • Increased accuracy.
  • Improved quality of view leading to a wide and detailed overview of the surgical field.
  • Quicker and safer dissection due to improved depth perception.
  • Flexible tip allows optimal dissection, identification of structures and better control.
  • Increased safety due to the ability of seeing different angles and having an enlarged field of view.

Gynecological Surgery

There are a variety of indications for a surgical intervention in gynecology. Most of them, if there is a malignant or benign indication, can be treated through a surgical minimally invasive laparoscopic approach.

Olympus provides gynecologists with a vast variety of innovative minimally invasive solutions and enables high-quality visualization of the operating field.

Benefits of ENDOEYE Flex 3D for Gynecological Surgery*

  • 3D camera benefits during gynecological suture.
  • Flexible tip helps to overcome the uterine size limits and increase the angle of view and enables different fields of view.
  • Easier identification of relationships between different structures also resulting in less complications.
  • Easier detection of small vessels to avoid bleeding.
  • Improved dissection due to flexible tip in combination with sense of depth.
  • 3D allows better manipulation of the tissue.
  • Flexible tip for easier approach of the suture.

Urological Surgery

In the case of malignant diseases on the kidney such as renal cancer either a radical or partial nephrectomy is performed. This can be either performed using an open-surgery or a laparoscopic approach. However, laparoscopic radical nephrectomy has been shown to result in lower morbidity, improving patient recovery ( 12 ) and laparoscopic partial nephrectomy shows equivalent oncological results with both approaches ( 13,14 ).

Benefits of ENDOEYE FLEX 3D for Laparoscopic* Nephrectomy*

  • Enables observation of hidden areas in the anatomy more easily with a greater depth.
  • Prevents instrument clashing as the scope can be kept away from the surgeon’s working area.
  • Improved orientation and dissection with continuous vertical orientation of the view.
  • Easier identification of structures thanks to depth of perception and ability to see rear aspects of any structure without mobilizing it.
  • Precise view of anatomy to avoid injuries.
